Created by a Machine Shop Owner to Help Shops Win More Profitable Work

When our founder, Brian McCabe, was running his machine shop, he faced the same daily headaches many shops do:

  • Wasting hours chasing down old quotes and part files
  • Interrupting programmers just to open CAD files
  • Losing bids to faster shops
  • Not knowing if the job was even profitable

Instead of accepting it, Brian built tools to solve it. What began as a simple part viewer app built to support his own shop quickly spread to more than 30,000 users. As demand grew, Brian brought in experts including Mark Mavromatis to architect a secure, cloud-native platform, and Brandon Massoni to apply advanced machine learning rooted in real manufacturing and defense research. Along the way, the team leaned heavily on the estimators, sales team and operators inside Brian’s own shop to shape the software and test the workflows. The result was Machine Research — a modern, AI-driven estimating and quoting platform designed around how shops actually work.

Brian grew his own shop with these tools—because they were able to quote faster, win jobs with confidence, and always know if they were making money. Today, Machine Research gives shop owners that same advantage: visibility into every estimate, the confidence their pricing is right, and the insight to focus on the jobs that grow the business.

Brian McCabe

Brian founded Machine Sciences, a precision machine shop where quoting speed, accuracy, and consistency directly impacted win rates and profitability. Experiencing firsthand the limits of spreadsheets, inboxes, and outdated software, he founded Machine Research initially to solve his own shop’s estimating and quoting challenges. Today, he leads the company with a clear mission: bring modern, affordable, shop-tested technology to manufacturers without the cost and complexity of legacy systems.

Brandon Massoni

Chief Science Officer

Brandon holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and leads Machine Research’s applied AI and Machine Learning efforts. Prior to joining the company, he worked on SBIR-funded research with Medema Labs, developing advanced algorithms in support of the U.S. Department of Defense’s mission to strengthen U.S. manufacturing. At Machine Research, he applies that same rigor to building AI models that actively learn from shop data — improving estimating speed, consistency, and decision-making over time.

Mark Mavromatis

Chief Technology Officer

Mark is responsible for the technical vision, architecture, and long-term scalability of the Machine Research platform. He led the design and build of the system from the ground up, creating a secure, cloud-native foundation that supports AI-driven estimating, rapid deployment, and enterprise-grade reliability. With deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud computing, and security, Mark ensures Machine Research delivers modern technology that machine shops can trust — without the complexity or risk of traditional enterprise software.

Jake Mavromatis

Jake works directly with machine shops every day, serving as the primary point of contact from first conversation through long-term success.
